An Explorers Guide to the Blue Ridge Parkway near Boone and Blowing Rock
Known as America's longest linear park, the Blue Ridge Parkway in North Carolina runs the spine of the Blue Ridge for 469 miles from Shenandoah National Park in Virginia to the Great Smoky Mountains Nation Park in North Carolina. Work on the Blue Ridge Parkway began in 1935 as a federal works project enacted as part of the New Deal. The last remaining section of the Blue Ridge Parkway officially opened in 1987.
